BE PERSISTENT - FOR YOUR OWN HOPES AND DREAMS
Autumn has visited Melbourne – the season which I am truly fond of due to the coolness that always makes my heart feel so light and gentle. This is also one of my favourite things about this UNESCO Creative City of Literature, as I would be able to freely immerse myself in the environment full of yellowish, reddish, and even dark-coloured leaves falling under big trees planted along the road, or in many residences. The “colourful” specialty of autumn always gives people the urge to slowly think and contemplate life.
As I was slowly enjoying the autumn air, my husband’s voice suddenly scared me, destroying those romantic thoughts in my mind, “Honey, why do I not see you buying flowers and decorating them around the house anymore?” I gently answered, “Ah, that is because I am saving money to “nourish” Truly Inspired.”
My husband looked at me as if he was doubting whether I was joking or not. His glance was filled with worries, not knowing how his kinky wife was feeling at that moment. My husband’s facial expressions made me silently chuckle as I was so close to laughing out loud like always. However, the weather in Melbourne today has “suddenly” and “strangely” turned me into a gentle and warm girl.
I am a person who loves flowers. I often go to markets or flower shops to find beautiful flowers and decorate them at home. I even save a corner in my house to decorate and display flowers. I usually brighten that background with beautiful flowers having the fragrances that I love, while the flowers’ colours and decorating styles can depend on my mood, feelings, seasons, or different special occasions. Nonetheless, my house has never lacked flowers for too long. That is why when my husband still saw the emptiness at that corner after more than a month had passed, he asked why I did not display flowers there anymore.
To be honest, I just simply wanted to save something special for this autumn. The intersection of two seasons always brings me a lot of inviting emotions and moods when I finish work. Melbourne’s autumn has lots of beautiful plants. However, I am still not satisfied with any of them so I decided to wait. As a person who has a strong passion for flowers, I am also willing to spend more than a month looking for and waiting for the kind of flower that I like the most. That plant must reach my desired length, not too short or too long, and suitable for my background at home.
Finally, after more than a month of waiting, I found a floral shop that had exactly the kind of flowers I needed in terms of colour, and size. Additionally, the shopkeeper was very nice, too. Not only did I get five beautiful bouquets that satisfied my requirements, but I also got them at very reasonable prices. I was so happy because beautiful bouquets are usually quite expensive, yet this time was truly icing on the cake for me. At that moment, I was grateful for my patience over the past month.
Do you see that? Even though it was just a matter of which flowers should be decorated in the house through autumn, I spent my time waiting for the most suitable ones with the belief that I would find the right kind of flowers. That has been my life perspective, habit, and life principle for a long time. I have always thought that if I have enough faith, sincerity, and patience, I will always get what I want or achieve my goals.
Once you finally have what you choose, it is almost impossible to exchange for a similar but slightly worse “version” or a temporary option of what you want.
Just like searching for those autumn flowers, there are plenty of beautiful and fragrant flowers in many floral shops, yet what I was looking for are bouquets that could emphasise the colour of autumn in Melbourne and the size should be suitable for the space of my background.
In my working or daily life, I also never go easy on myself and accept temporary options, because, once I add those temporary things as my choices, I will only receive temporary results, or maybe cause undesirable consequences and arisings due to the ease in accepting those temporary choices. That would only make me feel more uncomfortable inside, sometimes worse, not even in the mood to start anything over.
Just like the story of buying flowers, if I just choose a certain kind of marvellous flower in the store and use it to decorate, it is not only a waste of resources but also a waste of money and effort, right?
I know there are a lot of young people out there, even adults who are busy with work every day. Nonetheless, they are also the ones who are distancing themselves from their goals and dreams, just because of those “temporary options” they encounter on the journey of conquering life.
Sometimes on the way, you will meet countless opponents, who would knock you down so hard, or obstacles such as temporary good choices, making you forget what you truly want. If you are in that situation, remember one important rule to achieve your dreams:
Everything in this world always has a price. Sometimes, to be successful, and to achieve your dreams, you have to know how to say “NO” to things that do not belong to those goals you have initially set.
When you are in a relationship that is no longer bringing joy to you, please be brave to leave it. When people around you constantly hurt or are always sarcastic to you, please be brave to ignore them and keep a conscious mind. When the motivation or passion for your job no longer has you striving for it, please be brave enough to find another job that can emphasise, and put your talents and dedication to use. That is because your life purpose is always towards wonderful things and moral values for a better life, right? This is a very legitimate pursuit, so be brave to remove those temporary options from your life!

If our minds keep being occupied with obstacles that prevent us from achieving our dreams, we will gradually become emotionless in our lives. On our journeys, once it is determined our last destination is kindness and valuable life, then just be consistent and always put out your effort until the last breath!
Just like how I am feeling now, my heart is filled with joy and I enjoy the happy contentment when looking at the beautiful autumn breeze through those plants and flowers in this room. It is just like that!
