THE LAWS OF “GAINS” AND “LOSSES”
Hello there, another weekend has arrived, are you resting and enjoying this beautiful weekend?
For me, I have tried my best to enjoy as much as I could.
Lately, my schedule has been so tightly packed with work. Not only I had to meet all recording deadlines for Truly Inspired, but I also had to prepare content for our team meetings, and so many other things. Therefore, weekends are not exactly leisurely for me. However, being someone who appreciates clarity, I always try to organise my work in ways that I still have time to enjoy the remaining beautiful days of Autumn.
Today, I have a small topic to “chitter-chatter” with you about, and I think it is something quite familiar to everyone in their daily lives.
I recently came across a video posted by a fashion shop owner. The video showcased customer reviews about their experiences with the shop’s products on the e-commerce platform A. What caught my attention was that there were many unpleasant and even somewhat harsh reviews towards the shop owner. However, alongside those bad reviews, there were also positive reviews, expressions of gratitude, and wishes for the seller’s success from other customers.
Because there were products I was interested in on their shop’s page, I paused to read more carefully. Then, I went directly to their shop on the e-commerce platform A. After looking around, I realised that this shop always sells two different types of products. One type offers budget-friendly or very cheap products, and the other provides high-quality products corresponding to a higher price.
This means that with the same designs, clothing products are then made from different fabrics. All designs look great in pictures. Therefore, some customers clicked to purchase the cheaper products. This resulted in the products they received did not meet their expectations. Consequently, they left negative reviews about the shop’s product quality. I also noticed some reviews with comments like, “The fabric quality is fairly reasonable for this price,” or “The product quality matches the price. I chose the cheaper one, so I did not expect much,” etc.
As for the negative reviewers, either they did not read the product information carefully or they demanded too much, forgetting the small amount of money they spent on these products, they should hardly expect a top-notch, high-end item.
I suddenly realised that in our everyday lives, there are always people who are very strict in their evaluations and judgments of others, often when they are not satisfied. Just like the shopping story above, you can not spend just $10 and expect the seller to give you a $50 or $100-worth item, unless you get lucky or the store is running a promotion.
Throughout our lives, we often devote more time and emotions to focus on the unsatisfying, unexpected events rather than considering carefully what we have done and what we have invested to receive those things. The law of giving and receiving is not much different from the laws of gain and loss. What you gave away, what you received, what you gained, and what you lost. They all originate from within us.
Once, I invited a friend of mine to participate in charity work. My friend told me that she did not have much money to give away, so she declined my offer. However, I told her that even a small contribution could make a difference. It is not all about how much money she was giving away, but it can also be her effort in helping around. “A little goes a long way” – I was not particularly wealthy or extravagant, but I could still make a small contribution to charity. What matters is you are giving away with a wholehearted, sincere, and generous spirit, that is all that counts. However, my friend declined to accompany me, perhaps because of her “hesitation” and the belief that true generosity only comes with a substantial financial contribution. Even if you are not wealthy, when you share all you have with generosity, you have already given a lot away. Conversely, if you are wealthy but would constantly calculate your benefits, hesitant when giving away, that is considered little.
Therefore, everything we have and everything we lose today is the result of what we have done before.
You can not expect to earn huge achievements when you only put minimal effort into working diligently, improving your skills, or building relationships every day. You can not have everything in life if you just sit still and wait. You can not just blame people who do not like you when you only selfishly keep everything for yourself. You also can not blame others for not valuing you when you show no concern for how they are or what they feel while being busy with your life. You can not expect your child to be obedient and well-behaved if you are an irrational mom or an indiscriminate father.
These are the essential laws of life, and they are perfectly normal. If we are not aware, we would easily fall into our trap of resentment and envy. We often blame others for what they do to us without realising that is also a part of the results which we have contributed to building them earlier.
Be tougher on yourself instead of creating difficulties for others.
Use your actions and your way of life to change others, not just words.
Always remember: Everything in life comes with its price! If you want to enjoy more, practise working and giving away better. There will never be a different scenario, and even if there is, it will not last long.
When we start living fully aware like this, the first thing we will receive is a STRONG and PEACEFUL soul! That is because, at that point, we will not find any reasons to blame others nor have the mentality of “being the centre of the universe,” or “I have to be prioritised over everyone else.” It is all about giving away more with a generous spirit, my dear friend!
